When artists, buttons, wires, lights and speakers intersect, Loudon ensures the artist stays in the creative flow and the audience feels that sense of awe possible only with truly immersive experiences.

Loudon Stearns is an associate professor at Berklee College of Music, a course author and instructor at Berklee Online, and an active media-artist. In the Contemporary Writing & Production Department at Berklee, he prepares students to work as independent composers and producers in a technology-laden music industry including spatial audio, VR/XR, and advanced electronic performance techniques.

With Berklee Online, he focuses on the latest electronic music styles and music-technology innovations, shows students how to analyze contemporary styles, demonstrates the use of the latest music technology, and with Sylvia Massy he teaches students to record in “Unhinged” and innovative ways. Stearns authored the Massive Open Online Course Introduction to Music Production, providing high-quality free eduction to hundreds of thousands of students. He received awards from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) for excellence in teaching and from the Emerson College Visual and Media Art Department for excellence in media art.

A specialist in custom electronic musical instruments and networked sonic/visual interaction, Loudon developed a multi-screen and spatial audio immersive empathy experience, an electronic tabla performance system for Zakir Hussain, and a crowd surfing wireless keyboard for Mike Gordon. As the technical director for Berklee College of Music commencement concerts Loudon produced arena shows and remote concerts with casts of hundreds to honor Alex Lacamoire, Justin Timberlake, Sheila E., John Legend, Missy Elliott, Todd Rundgren, Esparanza Spalding, Nile Rogers, and Cassandra Wilson.

Loudon has a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Writing & Production and Bass Performance from Berklee College of Music, and a Master of Fine Arts in Media Art from Emerson College. Of particular interest to Loudon is using the world as a performance space by using internet streaming to coordinate numerous performers and audiences on different parts of the globe. The technical and aesthetic challenges of this type of performance are new and exciting, and require the sort of broad skill set that he developed through his extensive education in music, sound, performance, motion graphics, photography, programming, and construction.
